“Look Ma! I got a 4.8 GPA!”.
While it seems impossible, some
elite students can boast of such an
achievement. MCPS policy awards
an extra weighted GPA point to
students who take Honors, AP,
or IB classes, and does not dif-
ferentiate between them. In recent
years, the rise of more advanced
programs has hurt honors classes,
leaving them at a level that was
previously deemed on-level, but
still weighted. In fact, even 10th
grade Honors Health is weighted.
With so many different classes be-
ing simplified down to one bonus
point, what has the relevance of
weighted GPA become? If you ask
admissions officers of nearby uni-
versities, virtually nothing. |
